Santena (Turin), 15 July 2025 – PETRONAS Lubricants Italy has obtained the Gender Equality Certification from Bureau Veritas, a world leader in inspection, compliance verification and certification services. The company continues its “Our Road to Parity” journey with a clear mission: to promote inclusivity, gender equality and diversity in the workplace.
Key strengths that contributed to achieving the certification, as well as attracting talent, include the benefits offered to employees, with particular focus on supporting parenthood, inclusivity and gender equality.
From extra remote working days for caregivers and new parents, with six additional months on top of parental leave, to the supplementary health insurance extended to children, and psychological support provided through dedicated agreements: these concrete initiatives truly place people’s well-being at the centre.
Women have opportunities across all areas of the company, but the Turin office has achieved the strongest results in enhancing women’s contribution and representation in managerial roles.
PETRONAS Lubricants Italy employs 535 people across its two sites in Turin and one in Naples and stands out for its female employment rate: in the automotive market, where the average female representation is 19% (Fim CISL data), women make up an average of 25% of PETRONAS Lubricants Italy’s workforce, with peaks of 33.3% at the Santena site.
Currently, employees in Italy have an average age of 45, an average length of service of 15 years and a voluntary turnover rate below 1%. These successful figures are a sign of employee loyalty and local roots, supported by strong relationships with the communities where the company operates – Turin and Naples in particular – as shown by training projects (CNOS Fap) and partnerships with leading universities in Piedmont (Politecnico di Torino, ESCP Business School, SAA School of Management, University of Turin) as well as other Italian universities (Politecnico di Milano, University of Naples Federico II).

“The numerous initiatives we have implemented and the best practices we adopt help create a more attractive, fair, inclusive and respectful work environment: this certification is just one step in a deeper cultural change, a daily commitment that defines our future,” comments Giuseppe Pedretti, Regional Managing Director EMEA of PLI.
“More than just an approach, this is the method that every company, body or organisation today must adopt to operate and grow,” adds Federico Rossotto, HR Manager Italy. “The certification we obtained in April, which involved careful analysis and commitment starting last July, is a milestone in a journey that, once started, cannot stop but only grow stronger.”
The Gender Equality Certification is based on pillars such as Culture, Governance, Social Impact and Corporate Social Responsibility. It is valid for three years and includes two annual surveillance audits to monitor the management system and the progress to be achieved. PETRONAS Lubricants Italy is committed to maintaining the certification in the coming years and to continuing its journey.
“We are proud to highlight, through our certification audits, the best practices of organisations that are at the forefront of ensuring equal opportunities. PETRONAS Lubricants Italy’s commitment is particularly significant considering the sector’s strong male prevalence: their example can serve as a model for other companies in the supply chain, encouraging greater female presence in technical and managerial roles,” commented Diego D’Amato, President and CEO of Bureau Veritas Italia.
On Monday 16 June, the official handover event for the certification took place at the Santena Global Research Centre Auditorium. Among the special guests were racing driver Sara Fruncillo, who spoke with Linda Villano from AIDA (Italian Association of Women in Automotive), Giorgia Garola, President of AMMA (Unione Industriali Torino), Cinzia Arcuri from the Marisa Bellisario Foundation, and Elisabetta Cozzi, Director of the museum bearing her name in Lombardy and curator of the exhibition “Women and Engines? Just Joys”, which was specially restaged at the company’s premises for the occasion.
Earlier that month, on 9 June, PETRONAS Lubricants Italy also signed the Charter for Equal Opportunities and Equality at Work at the Unione Industriali headquarters together with more than 80 companies from the Piedmont region.
