Apollo Tyres Ltd has launched the Vredestein Superpasso Pro, the first model in an all-new range of high-performance, competition-ready road bike tyres set to launch throughout the coming year. Delivering significant advancements in performance, durability and functionality over its predecessor, the Superpasso Pro is engineered to meet the needs of competitive racers and enthusiast amateur riders alike.
The new Vredestein tyre is offered in three sizes: 700x25C, 700x28C and 700x32C, with tubeless-ready (TLR) and tube type options. Developed by Apollo Tyres’ dedicated R&D team in Europe, the Superpasso Pro features the company’s innovative ‘TriComp’ technology with different rubber compounds for the tread and sidewall to optimise rolling resistance, puncture protection and grip in both wet and dry conditions. The centre of the tread incorporates a harder compound for lower rolling resistance and to resist penetration, while the tyre’s shoulder is made of a softer compound to enhance cornering grip at all speeds.
The new ‘Active Control’ technology introduces an innovative tyre design for TLR tyres, replacing the traditional overlapping centre join with a bridged gap. This advancement makes the tyre lighter and faster, delivering enhanced control, improved feedback and uncompromised comfort. The Vredestein tyre also features a strengthened breaker layer to help maximise puncture resistance, providing users with the confidence to stay on the road for longer.
Compared to its Vredestein predecessor, the new Superpasso Pro achieves a 14% improvement in rolling resistance, a 23% increase in puncture resistance and an 8% reduction in weight. These performance upgrades make the Superpasso Pro an ideal choice for both professional road racing and cycling enthusiasts who are looking for a blend of high performance and comfort.
The Superpasso Pro has been rigorously tested by BEAT Cycling Club, a professional cycling team based in the Netherlands, as part of a commercial partnership with Apollo Tyres. The team has provided valuable feedback on its performance in both competitive environments and training conditions, ensuring it meets the high standards required by professional cyclists.
“The Superpasso Pro represents a significant leap forward in tyre technology, offering cyclists a product that excels in both performance and durability,” says Nic Knippers, Division Head Vredestein Two Wheel Tyres, at Apollo Tyres Ltd. “With its innovative design and advanced materials, it delivers unmatched speed, comfort and reliability for cyclists of all levels.”
“As a team that consistently pushes the limits of performance, we’ve been thoroughly impressed by the Superpasso Pro,” says Thijs Zonneveld, Sportive Director at BEAT Cycling Club. “The advancements in rolling efficiency, grip and durability have been evident in both race-day conditions and intense training sessions, and we’re excited to continue using it in competition.”
With over 100 years of heritage in the bicycle tyre market, Vredestein is renowned for producing high-quality tyres that deliver exceptional performance and value. Now part of the global Apollo Tyres family, the brand continues to challenge leading competitors in the high-performance road bike segment.
